The Tarot Suit of Pentacles

The Tarot Suit of Pentacles is associated with the suit of Diamonds in standard playing cards. The Suit of "Pentacles" is also known by other names, such as "Coins", "Discs" or "Disks".

There are meanings associated with each of the suits in a Tarot Deck (as well as the specific interpretations of each individual card - and the more precise meanings pertaining to its location within spreads.

The suit of Pentacles is associated with the element of earth and material concerns.
It is also associated with the season of winter, and with the direction "North".
Concerning personal attributes, the Pentacles refer to physical talents and mastery.
The pentagram (five-pointed star) is used to illustrate the pentacles in many of the most popular tarot decks. This is a Pythagorean symbol of health and knowledge - this symbol can have negative connotations if inverted.

The "Tens" in the Tarot Deck represent transcendent completion - as opposed to the mere physical completion of the "Nines". That is, not only has the task been completed, but the performer (seeker) has also learnt the lessons and experienced the spiritual development brought to him/her by the task or situation.

In the case of the Ten of Pentacles, fulfillment may take the form of material wealth and security. The Robin Wood "Ten of Pentacles" card is titled "Prosperity" - and both refers to and depicts the riches of home and family as well an obviously sufficient quantity of financial wealth/security.

This card may indicate the value of expending efforts on projects that will also benefit future generations - or advice to ensure that people of a wide range of ages and interests are included in our work, social, and personal interactions.

Keywords summarising the possible meanings of this card include:

  • Domestic and Family Matters
  • Financial Stability at Home
  • Improvements in the home environment
  • Prosperity
  • Riches
  • Wealth and Security.
