Watlington

The Royal Oak Public House, Watlington.
The War Memorial, Watlington.
At the junction on the main road through Watlington.

Watlington is one of the many attractive little market towns in South Oxfordshire. It is located to the south of Thame, approx. halfway between Chinnor and Wallingford. It is also right on the edge of the Chiltern Hills.

Apart from being a scenic rural area, beautiful in its own right, Watlington also benefits from the added attraction of Red Kites. That is the impressive large (huge !) red-brown birds re-introduced into the Chilterns area some time ago. These have thrived and are now commonly seen above Watlington and the surrounding towns and villages - including nearby Thame and Chinnor.

This idyllic spot near the Ridgeway Path would offer a great view for Hot Air Balloon flight passengers so its not surprising that hot air balloons are also seen around here on still summer evenings.

This page includes a selection of photographs of Watlington, all of which were taken within just a few minutes walk of the FREE public car park near the the town centre and shops. If you are lucky enough to be passing through this attractive little town it's well worth pausing to look around.
